PIONEERING FORCE IN THE MIDDLE OF ICELAND!
Our Salmon leather is being produced in an Icelandic tannery that is leading in manufacturing exotic leather from fish skin in addition to the more traditional long wool sheepskin tanning. Stationed in Sauðárkrókur, a small but vibrant community of roughly 3000 inhabitants, located in the heart of Skagafjörður, Iceland.
The development of the fish leather has been in process since 1994, but the idea itself is rooted in tradition whereas centuries ago Icelanders wore shoes made of wolf fish skin.
Salmon Leathers
The Salmon leathers we use at Nordic Elements is environmentally friendly in two different ways: it is a by-product of the fishing industry, utilizing raw material that would not otherwise be used; and the production process makes use of renewable hydro and geothermal energy.
We strive for sustainability, and we pride ourselves in the fact that all products going through our factory is all a by-product from other industries such as agricultural industries or the food industry. No animal is killed with the sole purpose of collecting its skin.
Origin: Salmon lives wild in the North Atlantic ocean, and returns to Icelandic rivers to breed. All the skin of salmon used in our Nordic Elements Njord Series is sourced from Icelandic salmon farms.
Aging Leather
The distinctive texture of the salmon leather is smooth and refined, with deep bold yet calm hues that look beautiful when you first start using the case and builds patina over time. The leather hues and natural tones become pronounced and build character with use of the case - making your case uniquely yours.
